Spinones, an ancient breed

These guys can carry lots of water around in those lips and beards, and drop it on your head if you happen to be lying around taking pictures of the other one.


These were a new breed to me but they’ve been around for a while here’s one sitting under the throne of Ludovico ll Gonzaga, Marquis of Mantua in 1471. Painted by Mangtena no less.

I loved photographing them, breed characteristics are that they are loyal, friendly to anyone and very relaxed in a slow paced kind of a way. When I’m photographing dogs I want above all to capture their personalities and that little something that makes them unique.

With these two images, and if I do say it myself, (well someone has to!) I did what I set out to do quite brilliantly.
