Roxy's alternative aspects

This is Roxy, we exist and thrive as an idea because of her.

She loves us and inspired our slogan “WHERE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE BECOMES ART”. She’s a rescue, from Barks of Love, without them and the countless hours they put in we wouldn’t have her and she wouldn’t be alive. She’s also the first larger than life piece of artwork you’ll see when you come to the studio.

We started Dogma Pet Portraits because at Emotion Portrait Studios nearly every time we make a family portrait there’s a dog in it, and over the years we’ve sold as many portraits of dogs as we have of kids. I believe that’s because the way we shoot, in a super relaxed, carefree environment, we are able to capture a dogs personality as easily as that of a child.

So we switched our brains to address the needs of our four legged friends and their humans. We designed our new Costa Mesa Studio to cater specifically to those families where the dogs are the most important personalities in the home.

As you continue looking through this site, I think you’ll get a great insight to each one of the inspiring dogs featured, and if you do then I’m doing my job.

NICKI, IN MEMORIAM

Today we are mourning the loss of one our favorite venerable Old Ladies. Nicki finally crossed the Rainbow Bridge after 17 years of loving membership of a wonderful, artistic family.

Nicki didn’t  love being at the studio so one day a couple of months back I went to her home and spent a lovely hour chasing her round her domain getting sits and shots like these.

This is how well loved she is, she even had her own tiny custom awning over her doggie door, very cool. She’ll be missed.

You have to love this big guy, all boy, all puppy, just big as a horse.

We are all thinking of him here at Dogma as he’s currently undergoing some treatment for one of those Great Dane specific complaints.

THE COOLEST FAMILY PORTRAIT SESSION EVER

Best family portraits ever

The coolest ever family portrait

So a couple of weeks ago my photographer buddy Chris Keating from Alberta caught a sudden burst of inspiration, hired an elephant and asked if I wanted to swap family portraits. I thought that might be more interesting than going to Disney that weekend so off we went to the Angeles National forest for on of the coolest days of our lives.

We took every camera we had, threw in a video crew, and broke out the iPhones. The above is the “big camera” image.

ALL THE OTHERS WERE SHOT ON AN IPHONE AND PROCESSED ON AN IPAD. I THINK THAT’S PRETTY COOL.

AND YES! WE CAN ARRANGE FOR YOUR VERY OWN “COOLEST FAMILY PORTRAIT EVER”.

BASSET RESCUE, VALENTINE’S SENIOR MOMENT

11 Bassets at the studio + visiting dogs, bake sale, tons of volunteers and a video crew (watch this space).

A great (if exhausting) time was had by all. We raised bait of money, much of it thanks to the amazing sales lady manning the bake sale table, who was heroically charging the passersby trapped in their cars at the traffic lights and the Super Pollo customers who all needed a dessert.

Here’s two of my favorite shots with a gallery. Click on an image to see it bigger.

That's a neat expression

Sometimes you do what you’ve got to do to get the shot!

This was a flighty little Chi, bouncy, wouldn’t sit still for a minute but always in the way of the other dogs.

that's actually a doberman

No, but really, I wouldn’t do this with a Doberman.

Here’s the rest of his family.
